Borough of Cape May Point, Cape May County – Lease Renewal for Cape May Lighthouse

PUBLIC NOTICE

TAKE NOTICE that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”) intends to renew its existing lease with The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, trading as Cape May MAC (Museums + Arts + Culture) (“MAC”) for the Cape May Lighthouse (“Lighthouse”), located on Block 792, Lot 20 within Cape May Point State Park to allow for continued development and implementation of educational, cultural, recreational, and interpretative programs, projects and activities; continued development and operation of the Lighthouse museum; conduct cultural, educational, historic, recreational, interpretative, social, membership, or community activities; and operation of the gift shop.

On March 27th, 1995, the Department entered into a lease agreement for the Lighthouse with MAC (“1995 Agreement”) Prior to the expiration of the initial lease term in 2019, MAC requested to exercise the 10-year renewal option in the 1995 Lease.   If approved, the renewal term will have an effective date of March 28, 2019 and will expire on March 28, 2029.

Proposed Conveyance of NJDEP Property–Maurice River Township, Cumberland County

The State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection (“NJDEP”) proposes to convey to the Township of Maurice River, by direct sale, approximately 5.58 acres of land located in the Township of Maurice River, County of Cumberland.

The land proposed to be conveyed is comprised of portions of the parcels designated for tax purposes as Block 316, Lot 44.01; Block 316, Lot 44.02; Block 316, Lot 44.03; Block 316, Lot 44.04; and Block 294, Lot 1.  The land is occupied by an assortment of privately-owned marina-related structures that were present on the site when the State of New Jersey purchased the property in 1956.  In addition, the NJDEP also proposes to convey to the Township an access easement covering a portion of Matt’s Landing Road, which is owned by the NJDEP, to provide permanent legal access to the Property.  The Property is located in an area known locally as Matt’s Landing and is managed by the NJDEP’s Fish and Wildlife as part of the Heislerville Wildlife Management Area (“WMA”).  The proposed sale price for the Property is $185,000.

State House Commission approval is required for this proposal. If approved, the Department anticipates that the earliest the proposed conveyance could occur is May 2023.
