Interim Specific Ground Water Quality Criteria, PQLs, and GWQS for Class II-A Ground Water

For Class II-A ground water constituents not listed in Appendix Table 1 of the GWQS rules, the Department may establish interim specific ground water quality criteria pursuant to N.J.A.C. 7:9C-1.7(c)2. On January 17, 2019, the Department posted on the Division of Science and Research’s website technical documents in support of draft interim specific ground water quality criteria and draft interim PQLs for PFOA and PFOS, and requested comments by February 19, 2019. The Department considered the public comments received and established interim specific ground water quality criteria, interim PQLs and interim specific ground water quality standards for PFOA and PFOS on March 13, 2019 by listing them in the Table of Interim Specific Ground Water Quality Criteria (ISGWQC), Interim PQLs (IPQLs), and Interim Specific Ground Water Quality Standards (ISGWQS) for Constituents in Class II-A Ground Water” on the GWQS website (under “Ground Water Quality Criteria, PQLs and Constituent Standards for Class II Ground Water”) in accordance with N.J.A.C. 7:9C-1.7(c) 2 through 4 and 1.9(c)1 and 3. The Department previously established ISGWQC, IPQLs, and ISGWQS for 23 constituents between 2005 and 2015 that were replaced with specific ground water quality standards in the adopted amendments published on January 16, 2018 .

Explanation of terms:

  • CASRN stands for Chemical Abstract Services Registry Number (Chemical Abstract Services Registry website at http://www.cas.org/content/chemical-substances/faqs#q1)
  • Effective date is the date that the ISGWQS became effective as a new/revised constituent standard.
  • Fact Sheet: This column links to a fact sheet summarizing the scientific basis for the ISGWQC, the IPQL, and the ISGWQS, using standard methods (see N.J.A.C. 7:9C-1.7(c)4 and 1.9(c))
  • Technical Support Documents: This column links to the technical documents (developed by the Department’s Division of Science and Research) that explain the scientific basis for the ISGWQC and the IPQL, as well as agency responses to public comments on any draft ISGWQCs and IPQLs published prior to being added to this table (i.e., those added since November 2015).
