
Bureau of Environmental Analysis, Restoration & Standards (BEARS)
From our shores to streams, The Bureau of Environmental Analysis, Restoration and Standards (BEARS) is responsible for conducting and implementing water quality programs guided by science to protect, maintain and enhance clean water statewide.
BEARS programs are administered in accordance with the federal Clean Water Act, BEACH Act, New Jersey Water Pollution Control Act, and the New Jersey Water Quality Management Planning Act. We strive to attain that the state’s rivers, lakes and coastal waters are fishable, swimmable and support healthy ecosystems, and that our freshwaters are clean sources of drinking water.
