Created in 1892, NJ Fish and Wildlife is a professional environmental agency dedicated to the protection, management and wise use of New Jersey’s fish and wildlife resources. Fish and Wildlife is part of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection under the direction of Assistant Commissioner David Golden.
OUR MISSION AND GOALS
Fish and Wildlife’s mission is to protect and manage the State’s wildlife resources to maximize their long-term biological, recreational, and economic values for all New Jerseyans.
AGENCY GOALS
To maintain New Jersey’s rich variety of fish and wildlife species at stable, healthy levels and to protect and enhance the many habitats on which they depend.
To educate New Jerseyans on the values and needs of our fish and wildlife and to foster a positive human/wildlife co-existence.
To maximize the recreational and commercial use of New Jersey’s fish and wildlife for both present and future generations.
BUREAUS AND OFFICES
Our eight bureaus and four offices collectively oversee and execute all of Fish and Wildlife’s activities and programs throughout the State of New Jersey.
COUNCILS AND COMMITTEES
The Fish and Wildlife Councils and Committees of the State of New Jersey have a unique role in managing our fish and wildlife resources. The Governor appoints members of the Councils as unpaid volunteers who act in the best interest of the State’s fish and wildlife resources on behalf of the public. These Councils help create and finalize each year’s hunting and fishing regulations and enable our resources’ professional and scientific management. There are six New Jersey Councils and Committees, and there are also two federal bodies on which the State is represented, as well as the State Mosquito Control Commission.
