The Department’s Division of Water Monitoring, Standards and Pesticide Control has scheduled an August 29 Surface Water Quality Standards Stakeholder Meeting for Toxic Substances. This meeting features no substantial changes from the June 2022 stakeholder meetings and is intended to be a refresher. Discussion points include anticipated updates to human health criteria for toxic substances at N.J.A.C. 7:9B and addition of numeric criteria for eight toxic substances, primarily based on recommendations published by the USEPA in 2015, and new human health criteria for 1,4-dioxane, and three per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances which are commonly known as PFAS: perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS).
The Division is reconvening a stakeholder meeting to provide an opportunity to share information, discuss and solicit input regarding options for these proposed revisions. This meeting is open to all those interested, and will be held via Microsoft Teams for registered attendees. Please RSVP through EventBrite at the link below which will provide attendees with the Microsoft Teams link prior to the event.
