INTERAGENCY COUNCIL ON CLIMATE RESILIENCE
Through Executive Order No. 89, the Interagency Council on Climate Resilience (Interagency Council) was established to develop short- and long-term action plans that will promote the mitigation, adaptation, and resilience of New Jersey’s economy, communities, infrastructure, and natural resources. The Interagency Council supports the development and implementation of New Jersey’s Statewide Climate Change Resilience Strategy, the foundational policy framework guiding state agency actions to address the impacts of climate change.
Nick Angarone, New Jersey’s Chief Resilience Officer, serves as the Vice Chair of the Interagency Council, which has 26 member agencies. He also directs the Office of Climate Resilience, which was established within the Department of Environmental Protection to provide strategic direction and support to the Interagency Council on Climate Resilience and other cross-departmental climate change resilience initiatives.

The Resilience Strategy includes 126 recommended actions across six priority areas.
Climate Change Resilience Strategy Two-Year Anniversary Accomplishment Report

Statewide Resilience Action Plans
Over the coming years, the Interagency Council will release a series of Resilience Action Plans, building on the Statewide Climate Change Resilience Strategy, described above. Resilience Action Plans will provide more detail on how the recommendations of the Resilience Strategy are being implemented and will identify new, existing, and expanded actions that address climate impacts.
Each of the Resilience Action Plans will focus on a specific climate threat to New Jersey, the first being extreme heat. The first Resilience Action Plan will focus on extreme heat.
The Interagency Council publication entitled “State Agency’s Actions to Increase Resilience to Extreme Heat Due to Climate Change” outlines various initiatives underway, as well as short-term actions being advanced by Interagency Council member agencies to build extreme heat resilience in New Jersey.
