Air Quality Awareness Week is April 29 – May 3, 2019

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) is kicking off Air Quality Awareness Week, April 29 – May 3, 2019 (www.cleanair.nj.gov).  The goal is to promote events that increase air quality awareness and inspire people to take steps to reduce their contribution to air pollution.

New Jersey has made significant progress in improving its air quality, but more work is needed. Simple changes to your everyday routine can reduce air pollution, lessen its impact to your health and the environment, and likely save you money. These changes include buying an electric vehicle when it’s time for your next vehicle purchase, maintaining your vehicle, not idling your car, carpooling, and limiting outdoor activities on poor air quality days.

New Jersey’s Air Quality Awareness Week 2019 focuses on educating the public about Clean Energy and Healthy Communities. It provides simple life style changes that can be implemented to reduce air pollution and its impacts on human health and the environment.

You can also check your local air quality everyday by visiting NJDEP’s Air Monitoring website (www.njaqinow.net/) or by subscribing to EnviroFlash, (www.enviroflash.info), an online alert system, that will send air quality information straight to your email inbox or cell phone.

All the week’s air quality facts and actions can be found at www.cleanair.nj.gov.  Follow this effort on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/NJDEPAQES/. This site also highlights area or local events scheduled during and around Air Quality Awareness Week.
