Air Quality Awareness Week is May 3 – 7, 2021

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) is launching the 2021 Air Quality Awareness Week, May 3 – 7 (https://www.nj.gov/dep/aqaweek/). The goal of Air Quality Awareness Week is to promote events that increase air quality awareness and inspire people to take steps to reduce their contribution to air pollution.

New Jersey has made significant progress in improving its air quality and reducing its impact on ozone nonattainment and climate change, but more work is needed. Simple changes to your everyday routine can reduce air pollution, lessen its impact to your health and the environment, and help advance Governor Murphy’s vision of 100% clean energy by 2050. Some simple changes include making smart buying decisions and applying environmental-friendly practices at home including purchasing an electric car when it’s time for your next vehicle purchase and using paints and cleaning products with little or no volatile organic products.

New Jersey’s Air Quality Awareness Week 2021 focuses on educating the public about the importance of healthy air for everyone including overburdened communities and zero carbon practices to support Clean Energy. It provides simple lifestyle changes that can be implemented to reduce air pollution and its impacts on human health and the environment.

You can also check your local air quality everyday by visiting NJDEP’s Air Monitoring website (www.njaqinow.net/) or by subscribing to EnviroFlash, (www.enviroflash.info), an online alert system, that will send air quality information straight to your email inbox or cell phone.
