The dual goals of the Division of Air Quality and Radiation Protection are to ensure healthy air, for both public health and the environment and to protect the public and radiation workers from unnecessary exposure to radiation.

DAQRP manages these two goals through regulation, planning, inspection, and permitting of sources of air pollution and radiation exposures.
Stationary Sources

Both large and small businesses keep NJ’s economy strong. Learn how New Jersey ensures that they also have the smallest impact on our health and environment.

Pollutants

Air pollution has significant impacts on our health and the environment. Learn about DEP’s efforts to address sources and their impacts through the State Implementation Plan (SIP).

Release Prevention

DEP regulates facilities that store and handle liquid Hazardous Substances and toxic, flammable, reactive, and explosive Extraordinarily Hazardous Substances (EHSs). Learn how DEP ensures that these regulated facilities protect public health and the environment by preventing incidents before they can occur.

Environmental Radiation

Radiation is all around us. Learn how DEP helps protect public health and safety from unnecessary exposure to radon in homes and radioactive materials in the environment.

Nuclear Engineering

Nuclear power plants provide clean and reliable energy to New Jersey’s residents and businesses. Learn how DEP monitors the environment and prepares to respond to emergencies at nuclear facilities affecting New Jersey.

X-Ray Compliance

X-rays have many beneficial uses in diagnostic medicine and industry. Learn how DEP ensures the safe operation of x-ray producing machines to protect the health and safety of the public.

What’s in YOUR Community?

Use the What’s In My Community Mapping Application to find facilities with an air permit registered with the Division of Air Quality.

Helpful hints when using the map:

Check out what your closest air monitors are reading by clicking on them and generating a report for Ozone, PM2.5, CO, NO2 and SO2.

Make sure to explore the “Layer List” above to easily add and remove featured GIS layer files, such as the Office of Environmental Justice’s “Overburdened Communities” layer.

The Clean Air Council
Since 1954, the New Jersey Clean Air Council has advised the DEP on air quality matters.

The NJ Clean Air Council consists of eighteen members, fourteen of which are appointed by the Governor. Members serve four-year terms, and include representatives of the Commissioners of Health, and Community Affairs; and the Secretaries of Agriculture, and the NJ Commerce Commission’s Board of Directors.

Environmental Emergency?
For Environmental Emergencies: DEP has toll-free 1-877-927-6337

Use this number to report environmental incidents, abuses, and complaints in New Jersey or impacting it. The 1-877-WARNDEP number can be used in the continental United States.

Environmental Non-Emergency?

The pilot app utilizes GPS technology for pinpoint location of environmental incidents and also allows users to submit photos as part of their reports to the DEP. Use the pilot app to report non-emergency environmental incidents only.
