NJ DEPARTMENT of ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATION
RADIATION PROTECTION AND RELEASE PREVENTION ELEMENT
Notice of Rule Proposal
Radiologic Technology; N.J.A.C. 7:28-19
Public Notice
Take notice that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Commission on Radiation Protection are proposing to repeal existing subchapter 19 and establish a new subchapter 19, which will regulate the practice of radiologic technology, educational programs of radiologic technology, employers of radiologic technologists and registrants and suppliers of x-ray equipment. The proposed subchapter includes definitions of terms, increased examination and licensure fees for technologists and new fees for schools of radiologic technology. In addition, the proposed rules will codify many of the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiner requirements and define the scope of practice for each of the seven categories of radiologic technology. Also, the proposed rules will recognize a new national health care professional, the radiologist assistant, and will define its practice, as it relates to radiologic technology, as well as the practice of radiologist assistant students. Under N.J.S.A. 26:2D-7, the Commission on Radiation Protection (Commission) has the authority to promulgate rules and regulations as may be necessary to prohibit and prevent unnecessary radiation. The Department has authority to promulgate rules relating to fees and enforcement. Therefore, both the Commission and the Department must authorize the adoption proposal.
