LOCATION: Stow Creek, Stow Creek Township, Cumberland County

PURPOSE:  To compensate for loss of recreational opportunities during the Athos oil spill by improving the Stow Creek boat ramp to facilitate use to access tidal rivers, including Stow Creek, Mad Horse Creek and the Delaware River.

BACKGROUND: The Stow Creek boat ramp is located on Stow Creek at the end of Stow Creek Road.  The boat ramp is managed by the NJDEP and surrounded by 186 acres owned by the NJDEP. The existing ramp is extremely narrow and short and in poor condition. Despite its poor condition, the ramp was heavily used for fishing, hunting and ecological tours.

PROJECT SUMMARY:  The project consisted of widening and lengthening the ramp, removing the existing asphalt and replacing it with concrete, and constructing a small courtesy dock so that boats can be safely boarded, loaded, and unloaded.

BENEFITS:  The boat ramp and dock now accommodates more hunters, fishermen, and ecological tourists. The ramp is more accessible for individuals with disabilities and is safer to use.
