Lazarus Preserve

Stafford Township, Ocean County

Acres: 30

Deer Hunting: Permitted

Preserve Info

An early addition to the Natural Lands Trust system of preserves, this property was donated to the Trust in 1985 by John D. Lazarus. Remotely located at the junction of Cedar Run Creek and Stocum’s Branch, the habitat mirrors that of surrounding forest of pitch pine and Atlantic white cedar bogs. Once an isolated protected parcel, the area surrounding Lazarus Preserve is now part of New Jersey Fish and Wildlife’s Stafford Forge Wildlife Management Area.

Public Access and Uses

This Preserve is isolated and difficult to access. Visitors can look for this property near the dirt road intersections of Micaja’s Road and Stocum’s Road. Since the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife has a strong enforcement presence at the Stafford Forge Wildlife Management Area, the Trust allows deer hunting at this preserve without the need for registration.
