Despite being the most densely populated state in the nation, and the fourth smallest in area, New Jersey provides habitat for more than 400 species of land-dwelling vertebrate wildlife, as well as 134 freshwater fish species, 336 marine fish species, and thousands of terrestrial and aquatic invertebrate species.
