Beneficial Reuse of Dredge Material – Heislerville Wildlife Management Area

The US Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District will begin dredging operations at the mouth of the Maurice River on or about November 2nd, 2023.

Clean dredge material will be beneficially reused via a placement on Northwest Reach, Heislerville Wildlife Management Area, just due south of Matt’s Landing Road. Northwest Reach was formerly composed of high and low saltmarsh habitat. It has since degraded to mudflat.

The beneficial reuse of clean dredge material is a common practice to restore saltmarsh habitat. Dredge sediment placement raises the marsh platform to targeted elevations that encourages the growth of low and high saltmarsh vegetation.
