6. Why is the Saltwater Registry part of the License System?
7. Who Needs to Register?
8. Where can I find information on the Saltwater Registry and/or saltwater regulations and fishing?
1. I have been registered for years, so why does it say I don’t have a profile or account?
The previous Saltwater Registry system (2011-2023) is now void and has been replaced. Unless you have had a freshwater fishing license, crabbing license, hunting license or other NJFW license/permit, you will need to create a new profile within the NJ Fish & Wildlife licensing system. You will be issued a new CID #, which will replace your old Registration #.
2. I live out of state, so why does it keep telling me that I must have a NJ driver’s license?
At the top of your profile page, directly under where it says ‘NEW CUSTOMER’ you must change the ‘Residency Method’ to whichever applies. In this case, you would choose ‘Non Resident’. Please see the screenshot below.
3. If I didn’t print my saltwater registration from the receipt screen, can I print it at a later date?
Yes! Whenever you decide to print or reprint, you can log into your NJFW profile and choose the ‘Reprint Items’ button. From here, you can print any active licenses/permits/registrations you may have. Please see the screenshot below.
4. My contact information has changed, can I edit my customer profile?
Yes. You can log into your NJFW profile and choose the ‘Edit Customer Profile’ button or on the top right of your profile, you can click the arrow next to your name and choose ‘Edit Profile’ from the drop down. This enables you to change most of your information. Information that is greyed out must be edited by NJFW staff by calling 609-292-2965 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday or by emailing SaltwaterRegistry@njdepwptest.net. Please see the screenshot below.
5. I am logged into my profile, but I don’t see where to get my saltwater registration.
Once you are logged in, you can either choose the ‘Saltwater Registry’ or ‘Purchase Licenses’ button. From there you can add the relevant registration to your cart, free of charge. Please see the screenshot below.
6. Why is the Saltwater Registry part of the License System?
Convenience: It was moved to the license system to make it easier ‘one stop shopping’ for those who also participate in shellfish harvesting, crabbing, or freshwater fishing. It’s still not a license but needs to be procured through the same process as licenses and permits. There is no charge to register. Customers can still save the document to their computer and/or log back in and reprint as many times as they need to.
7. Who Needs to Register?
Individual saltwater anglers ages 16 and older MUST register if ANY of the following criteria are met:
- Recreationally fish with a hand line or rod and line, spearfish or fish by hand
- Recreationally fish in the marine and fresh tidal waters of the State of New Jersey
- Recreationally fish in marine waters outside the State of New Jersey but land the catch in New Jersey
Individual saltwater anglers are EXEMPT from registering if either of the following apply:
- Under the age of 16
- Solely fish on for-hire (party and charter) vessels that are registered with the New Jersey Saltwater Recreational Registry Program
For-hire vessel owners/operators MUST register if:
- Carry individuals who engage in recreational fishing in the marine and fresh tidal waters of the State of New Jersey
OR
- Carry individuals who engage in recreational fishing in the marine waters outside the State of New Jersey but land their catch in New Jersey
