State Conservation Officers spend hundreds of patrol-hours in the field each month protecting our wildlife resources by educating hunters, anglers and others, and enforcing regulations. These regulations are another tool natural resource managers use to enhance and protect wildlife populations. They also provide for fair and equal opportunities for the hunting and angling public.

Violations carry different penalties as prescribed by law. Sometimes there is a range of penalty amount and the defendant may be required to appear in court. Amounts may vary for a variety of reasons, including whether it is a first-time offense or a repeat violation. Some violations can lead to a temporary, or even permanent, loss of hunting and fishing privileges.

A list of monetary penalties allowed to be paid through the violations bureau of a municipal court, as per the state violations schedule, can be found on the NJ Judiciary Web site’s Statewide Violations Bureau Schedule – see Section C, page 19, for Fish and Game Violations. Not all violations, however, are subject to adjudication in a municipal court, and additional penalties often apply.
