ATTENTION CANADIAN AND OTHER NONIMMIGRANT ALIEN HUNTERS!
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has regulations requiring all nonimmigrant aliens who temporarily import firearms or ammunition into the US to first submit an ATF Form 5330.3A (PDF). Hunters May Not Bring Whole Deer Into New York (NY DEC)
Information regarding hunting regulations, requirements, seasons and other topics is available in the current Hunting & Trapping DIGEST (published in August). Digests are available at Fish & Wildlife offices, license agents, through the mail by request (non-residents only) and on-line.
New Jersey hunting licenses expire on Dec. 31 regardless of when purchased; there is also a Non-Resident 2-Day Small Game License which can be used for waterfowl in addition to other small game (except turkey). Licenses are available at license agents and on-line. For use of a muzzleloading rifle, a NJ Rifle Permit is required in addition to the basic firearm hunting license. The Rifle Permit is required to purchase and use a Permit Muzzleloader Deer Season permit.
To purchase a NJ hunting license it is necessary to document possession of a previous year’s resident license (from any state) or hunter education course completion. Nonresidents also have the option of obtaining an Apprentice License (some limitations apply) if they have a licensed New Jersey hunter to serve as their “mentor”.

Waterfowl hunters should consult the current Hunting & Trapping Digest, published in August each year, for waterfowl hunting regulations, or view the summaries available on the Regulations page. In addition to the Federal Duck Stamp, New Jersey also requires waterfowl hunters age 16 or older possess a New Jersey Waterfowl Stamp and Hunter Information Program certification.
New Jersey has an impressive amount of public land open to hunting. We welcome hunters from outside New Jersey and think you’ll find our numerous seasons and often liberal bag limits appealing.
