State Record Bluefish (Spearfishing)

The NJDEP Fish and Wildlife has announced that Igor Kotov of Cranford made his way onto the state record fish list recently by landing a state record Bluefish while spearfishing. Igor was diving off the Gypsyblood Dive on the Shark River Artificial Reef’s USS Algol when he landed the 22 pound, 2 ounce fish.
The new record bluefish – spearfishing measured 38.375 inches in length.
State Record Cobia (Spearfishing)

NJDEP Fish and Wildlife announced that Joe Cunningham of Cape May Courthouse made his way onto the state spearfishing record fish list recently by landing a new state record Cobia on August 11, 2019.
Joe was free diving off Sea Isle City when he got the fish. The fish weighed 74 pounds, 5 ounces and was 14 pounds, 5 ounces pounds more than the previous record. The new record cobia measured 56 inches in length and had a girth of 29 inches.
State Record Fluke (Spearfishing)

The NJDEP Fish and Wildlife has officially certified the first entry into the new Spearfishing category in the State Record Fish Program.
Robert A. Davis of Bamber Lake, New Jersey, speared the state record fluke (summer flounder) on August 4, 2014, just five days following the initiation of the new Spearfishing category. The fish weighed in at 15 pounds 5 ounces which exceeded the set minimum weight of 12 pounds. The fluke is also being recognized as a World Record by the International Underwater Spearfishing Association (IUSA).
The exceptional specimen was harvested near Barnegat Lighthouse in 20 feet of water.
State Record Winter Flounder (Spearfishing)

Jim Oriscak of Toms River has made his way onto the state record fish list recently by landing a winter flounder while spearfishing. Jim was free diving off the shore of the Shark River “back bay” when he landed the 3 pound, 7 ounce fish.
The new record winter flounder-spearfishing measured 18.75 inches and had a 16.5 inch girth. It weighed 2 ounce more than the previous record.
State Record Sheepshead

Dan Street of Hainesport made his way to the top of the state spearfishing record fish list by landing a new state record Sheepshead on July 15, while free diving in the Atlantic Ocean. The fish weighed 13 pounds, 3 ounces, beating the old record by 11 ounces. It measured 26 inches in length and had a girth of 23 7/8 inches. Congratulations to Mr Street on his magnificent catch!

State Record Gray Triggerfish (Spearfishing)

The NJDEP Fish and Wildlife has announced that Jeff Meyer of Warrington, PA, made his way onto the state spearfishing record fish list recently by landing a new state record Gray Triggerfish on August 14. Jeff was spearfishing from a boat when he got the fish. The fish weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounces and was 2 ounces more than the previous record.
The new record Gray Triggerfish measured 20 inches in length and had a girth of 19.5 inches.
