NEW SEPTIC RULE WORKSHOPS REMINDER
Three free half-day workshops will be held in June on the new septic system rule requiring environmental asessments, which became effective in March.
The rule, known as Subchapter 8 of the Water Quality Management Planning Rules, was adopted the end of January.
Proposed revisions to the remaining part of the rules, known as the ‘watershed rule’, are expected to be introduced later this year. A waiver was recently granted extending the existing Water Quality Management Planning Rules until April 30, 2002 to give the state more time to review public input and draft improved regulations.
The septic rule requires environmental assessments for new residential development of six or more units and commercial development discharging 2,000 gallons of wastewater or more per day into the ground.
The workshop schedule is:
- June 19 at Centenary College, formal dining room Hackettstown
- June 20 at Mercer County College, Communications Bldg., Room 109, West Windsor
- June 27 at Stockton College, Residential Life Center, Pomona
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The workshops run from 9 a.m. to noon.
The septic rule and fact sheets are available on DEP's website at www.state.nj.us/dep/watershedmgt.
