PECK BAY REOPENS FOR CRABBING AND FISHING
(04/93) TRENTON — Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell today announced the re-opening of shellfish beds in Peck Bay, Cape May County.
Following a thorough investigation, there are no data to suggest that a public health threat currently exists in Peck Bay, therefore, these waters are being reopened to shellfish harvest.
Commissioner Campbell ordered a precautionary closure for crabbing and finfishing in the waters of Peck Bay on May 14.
In a cooperative effort among the DEP (Water Monitoring and Standards and Division of Fish and Wildlife), USEPA Region 2, USEPA Atlantic Ecology Division and USFDA, samples were analyzed for potential causes such as toxic algal species and toxic contaminants. Nothing harmful was found in any of the samples.
