New Jersey's Earth Day Web Site Outlines Activities for the Month

(05/45) TRENTON — Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell today announced the availability of the DEP's newly created Earth Day Web site that allows the public to participate in Earth Day related opportunities and events.

On April 22, communities, organizations, parks, companies and schools throughout New Jersey will celebrate the national 35th anniversary of Earth Day. Over forty public events designed for families, individuals, organizations, and youth groups will take place throughout the state over the next few weeks.

"Earth Day is a great opportunity for the public to get involved and to take action in the environmental movement," said DEP Commissioner Campbell. "The Web site is a tool that fully informs the public of the varied activities taking place throughout the state. Everyone has a role to play – every act toward protecting our resources has a positive cumulative effect."

Additional features at the site include the history of Earth Day, online educational resources, and a list of actions that people can take at home, in school, or at work to help protect the environment.

DEP supports and promotes Earth Week, which will be celebrated from April 17 through April 23, together with Environmental Education Week, which extends from April 10 to April 16. This two-week celebration is dedicated to raising public awareness about the value of environmental education programs and events for all ages with the aim of developing lifelong interest in learning about local and state environmental protection efforts.
