(13/P73) TRENTON – Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin today released the following statement on the passing of Passaic River Coalition Executive Director Ella Filippone:

“Ella was a passionate and knowledgeable champion for clean water and sound environmental planning in our state.  She was a strong and reasonable voice for the environment. She knew what was needed to achieve water quality protection, especially in the Passaic River Watershed. She was always well informed, provided sound advice and was respectful to those with different viewpoints.

“Ella leaves a legacy of improved water quality in New Jersey and a greater consciousness in our state about the importance of protecting our rivers, streams, lakes and watersheds. The State of New Jersey has lost a great environmental advocate. She will be greatly missed. On behalf of the DEP and residents of our state, I offer condolences to the Filippone family.
