OPEN HOUSE AT PEQUEST TROUT HATCHERY IN WARREN COUNTY POSTPONED DUE TO LINGERING SNOW COVER (17/P24) TRENTON – Due to lingering snow cover, the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife is postponing the annual Open House at the Pequest Trout Hatchery in Oxford, Warren County. The open house, originally scheduled for the upcoming weekend, will be held Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4. The new dates will coincide with National Fishing and Boating Week, which runs from June 3-11, and the June 10 statewide Free Fishing Day. The free event will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Snow left over from the March 14 storm that dumped upwards of two feet in the northwestern part of the state made it impractical for the Division of Fish and Wildlife to set up exhibits and accommodate vendors. Every year, the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center holds an open house, usually the weekend before the opening of trout season. The event is geared toward fishing and wildlife enthusiasts and introduces newcomers to outdoor activities. The open house features numerous environmental and conservation exhibits, an introduction to fishing for kids, historical re-enactors, wildlife artists, wood carvers, and a sportsmen’s flea market. The snowfall is not expected to impact the annual stocking of streams with trout raised at the hatchery. For more information, visit: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/peqoh.htm ### |
