(08/35) TRENTON – Following a rigorous examination process, the New Jersey State Park Police have earned accreditation, widely regarded as the gold standard for police work, from the state’s top professional law-enforcement organization, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Lisa P. Jackson announced today.

“The accreditation of State Park Police is a significant achievement and truly well-deserved. It recognizes that the men and women who are responsible for upholding the laws that keep our state parks peaceful and safe are using the best practices in modern police work and are serving as a model for other law enforcement agencies,” Commissioner Jackson said.

During a hearing, members of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police voted unanimously to award accreditation to the New Jersey State Park Police.

The process to earn accreditation entailed a comprehensive review of department procedures and personnel, including an examination of stations, evidence management, communications, training and administration facilities.

The accreditation standards achieved by State Park Police were established by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, a well-respected benchmarking organization. CALEA is a joint effort of law enforcement’s major executive associations including: the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the National Sheriff’s Association and the Police Executive Research Forum.
