DEP OPENS SWIMMING AREAS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND AT NEW JERSEY'S STATE PARKS, FORESTS AND RECREATION AREAS
(06/40) Trenton — As New Jerseyans prepare to celebrate the unofficial start of summer, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Lisa P. Jackson today invited residents and visitors to take a dip in one of 14 swimming areas in the state's parks, forests and other recreation sites.
"New Jersey's freshwater lakes and ocean beaches offer wonderful opportunities to cool off and exercise while enjoying scenic views," Commissioner Jackson said.
During Memorial Day weekend, all swimming areas will be open from Saturday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., unless otherwise posted.
After the holiday weekend, most of New Jersey's swimming areas will operate on a five-day schedule, closing any two days Monday through Thursday. During closures, swimmers will be referred to neighboring swimming areas as occupancy allows. All of New Jersey's swimming areas will remain open on weekends and holidays.
