DEP COMMISSIONER BRADLEY M. CAMPBELL HOSTS SECOND REGIONAL DROUGHT WORKSHOP
(02/34) Trenton, NJ— Bradley M. Campbell, Commissioner, Department of Environmental Protection will be at Liberty State Park in Jersey City on Thursday, May 9, to exchange information and provide updates on the status of the drought in the Northeast region of the state. The second in the series of six regional meetings will be held in the Blue Comet Auditorium, Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal (CRRNJ) building at Liberty State Park.
"The workshops provide an open forum for residents to ask questions and to provide input on how the drought is affecting their communities," said Commissioner Campbell. "It is important to discuss environmental strategies with all constituents to best determine a course of action for the long term."
With rain during March and April temporarily improving stream flows and making vegetation look green and lush, the illusion is that New Jersey's water supply situation has improved dramatically. However, two months of near-normal rainfall cannot erase the deficit that has accumulated for the last year and a half of below normal rainfall.
The workshop will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Blue Comet Auditorium at Liberty State Park. For future workshop dates and locations, go to the drought web-site at www.njdrought.org.
