DEP EXTENDS DEADLINE OF WATERSHED AWARDS PROGRAM UNTIL FEB.1
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is extending the deadline for its second annual Division of Watershed Management Awards Program, which recognizes exceptional achievement in watershed protection.
The deadline has been extended from January 12 to Friday, February 1.
"The award program's goal is to salute and thank segments of the watershed community for their innovative achievements," said DEP Commissioner Bob Shinn. "The honorees' works are models for others. Their results can inspire and instruct other groups on ways to make a strong commitment to proactive watershed management."
This year, the categories have been expanded to include county and regional organizations. The other categories are businesses/industries, municipalities, educational institutions and watershed groups. Three awards will be presented in each category. Because of strong participation in last year's awards program, DEP was pleased to widen the opportunity to acknowledge and stimulate more public support of watershed management.
The watershed management process is a holistic approach to restoring and maintaining water quality, water supply and ecosystem health by taking into account all potential point and nonpoint sources of pollution, such as runoff from roads and development, as well as pesticides and fertilizers from landscaping and agriculture.
