Historic Preservation Commission mailing list (HPClist)
What is HPClist?
Our office established this email list as a forum for our Certified Local Government (CLG) communities. Active members and staff of Historic Preservation Commissions (HPC) in these communities may discuss historic preservation issues of concern with our staff and/or each other.
HPO may also use this list to post information about events that HPCs may find of interest, such as:
- Upcoming workshops
- Training sessions
- Conferences
We do not anticipate a high volume of messages across the list.
List policies
Please observe the following rules so that all subscribers can continue to enjoy its benefits:
- Keep discussions civil and constructive. Reserve heated debate, non-constructive comments or unrelated topics for off-list communication. If a subscriber persistently fails to follow this rule, we will suspend their posting privileges.
- No obscene, abusive or derisive language or material. This is a zero-tolerance policy — violators will be immediately removed.
- Do not post copyrighted material. Violating copyright laws may put you and the HPO at legal risk. You may post
- A pointer to the work.
- Summarize or paraphrase the work.
- Use quotes from the work within the boundaries of fair use.
- Do not attach files to list messages. Attached files create virus risks and can overburden the email system, especially for users with slower internet connections. Users should communicate directly if they wish to share files.
Email all subscribers
This is called sending mail to the list, because you send mail to a single address and the mailing list program “explodes” your letter by duplicating it and sending copies to everyone subscribed to the list.

Using server commands
Basics
Our Listserv-style mailing list uses the Majordomo software platform and its commands. You can interact with it by sending commands in the body of mail messages addressed to its system account.
- Do not put commands in the subject line — Majordomo will not process them.
- You may put multiple Majordomo commands in the same mail message.
- Put each command on a line by itself.
If you use a signature block at the end of your mail, Majordomo may mistakenly believe each line of your message is a command and send back error messages.
To keep this from happening, put either a hyphen (-
) or a separate line with just the word
end
on it before your signature. This will stop the Majordomo software from processing your signature as bad commands.
