Green Acres Success Story – 132.8 Acres on Scotts Mountain

Green Acres acquired 132.8 acres on Scotts Mountain in June 2024 with assistance from the New Jersey Conservation Foundation after more than four years of negotiations and site clean up. The property is in White Township, Warren County in the Highlands Preservation Area.
This large and important linkage to Buckhorn Creek Wildlife Management Area has everything: critical habitat, fields, migratory bird species, deer, turkey, forest, amazing views, and a portion of Buckhorn Creek (a Category 1, trout-production stream).
Located within a NJDEP CHANJ (Connecting Habitat Across New Jersey) Core area, the site will permanently protect forested and early successional habitats for many wildlife species, including some of New Jersey’s state-listed endangered species such as bobcat, veery, and wood thrush.
NJDEP Fish & Wildlife (F&W) opened the property in the fall of 2024 for deer and turkey hunting. There are some extensive mature upland forests on the property. F&W will be managing the fields on the property and on adjacent existing parts of Buckhorn WMA for wildlife such as deer, turkeys and other birds, and also for insect pollinators and rare species.
