State Land Urban Acquisition Partnership

PURPOSE OF FUNDING

  1. To acquire properties in Urban Aid municipalities, Community Collaborative Initiative (CCI) communities, and counties creating parks and greenways in these communities. 
  2. To repurpose undesirable structures or remediate environmentally contaminated properties for open space. 
  3. To promote healthier, more resilient and vibrant communities by increasing public green space.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR CONSIDERATION

  1. Communities with financial constraints or limited capacity to acquire property.
  2. For the acquisition of brownfield sites, communities that are willing to co-own the property and apply for funding for remediation, such as through the NJDEP Hazardous Discharge Site Remediation Fund, or other funding sources. 
  3. Ability to manage and maintain the property as public open space once it has been acquired.

Communities looking to provide more public open space but lack the financial resources and/or capacity to acquire properties are encouraged to contact the Green Acres staff to discuss the specifics of potential property acquisitions and receive personalized guidance on how to proceed.
