Clean Vessel – Pump Out Facilities

PLEASE NOTE: AS OF JANUARY 1, 2025, NJ SEA GRANT IS ADMINISTERING THIS PROGRAM. 

PURPOSE OF FUNDING 
To provide funds to states for the construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance of pumpout stations and dump stations and for educational programs that inform boaters of the importance of proper disposal of their sewage.

APPLICATION DEADLINE 
Rolling, for applicants with an approved pre-application with Marine Trades Association, the Pump Facilities 2024 Operation and Maintenance grant application is now available in NJDEP SAGE for final application submission

On an on-going basis.

US Fish and Wildlife Service: Sport Fish Restoration Program (75%)
Shore Protections License Plate Sales (25%)

WHO IS ELIGIBLE 
Local Governments and Public/Private Marinas

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR CONSIDERATION 
To be eligible for funding under this program, both public and private facilities must be open to the public and provide full and reasonable access to the pumpout/dump station.

GRANT LIMITATIONS 
Subject to availability of funds.

Pumpout construction/renovation – Estimates exceeding $20,000 must be approved by the New Jersey Clean Vessel Program Steering committee.

Operation & Maintenance Program – Marina reimbursement for eligible costs not to exceed $3,500. Pumpout boat operator reimbursement for eligible costs not to exceed $7,500.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES 
Applications reviewed by Clean Vessel Program Steering Committee. Contract established with DEP for construction. Marina owner is fully reimbursed for construction costs.
