Rebuild by Design Meadowlands
Project Overview
The Record of Decision signed by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs on December 20, 2018, describes the flood risk reduction measures proposed by the Rebuild by Design Meadowlands Project. The proposed measures aim to address impacts of inland and coastal flooding on the quality of the human environment. This inland and coastal flooding is due to both storm hazards and sea level rise within the project area. The Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) dated October 2018, identifies a Build Plan and Future Plan for the project. The Build Plan is funded with a $150M HUD Grant while the Future Plan would require other funding sources and could be pursued by other entities. For more information regarding the Build Plan and Future Plan, please refer to the FEIS.
The major project components being designed and constructed include a new 50 cubic foot per second (cfs) pump station and force main on Losen Slote in Little Ferry and a new 500 cfs pump station with channel improvements on East Riser Ditch in Carlstadt and Moonachie. If funding allows, project components also include a new park and numerous green infrastructure-type improvements that are being designed for municipally owned buildings within the project area. For more information, please refer to the project fact sheets (link here).
Throughout the process, NJDEP has encouraged broad involvement via public meetings, collaboration, construction updates, and publicly-available materials. Please click on either button below to learn more, or scroll further down to read more about RBD-Meadowlands.
