Join NJ Fish & Wildlife’s R3 Hunting & Shooting Program for a Women’s Coastal Waterfowl Hunt for Beginners. This program is designed to provide women 18 years of age or older with a welcoming environment in which to learn outdoor skills, specifically, coastal waterfowl hunting. This FREE workshop is offered to women who have some previous hunting experience but want to try waterfowl hunting for the first time or who are novice waterfowl hunters.

Workshop Overview:

Participants will learn about waterfowl biology and identification, hunting regulations, equipment, hunting techniques, and field dressing, followed by an actual quality mentored (not guided) waterfowl hunt. Participants will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Sedge Island Dock, located at Island Beach State Park in Seaside Park, where they will travel to Sedge Island. Thursday will be spent receiving instructions from biologists and experienced waterfowl hunters. On Friday Morning, December 6, 2024, participants will be teamed with a mentor for a great morning hunt. Participants will share a bunk room with a fellow female hunter.

Facilities:

The Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center is a rustic, renovated duck hunting lodge situated on an island, a mile from Island Beach State Park, in Barnegat Bay. It is now used as a residential environmental education facility. There are facilities that will help make the overnight workshop comfortable- like composting toilets, running water, common room, kitchen, dining room, and space heaters in common areas. There are six bunk rooms that participants will be paired up to share. Please note, even though there is no heat, there are portable heaters that will be used.

Requirements:

Participants must be women at least 18 years of age and:

MUST possess the following by the date of this workshop:

• Valid 2024 NJ Firearm Hunting License or All-Around License.
• Current NJ State Waterfowl Stamp
• Current HIP Certification
• License/Stamp/HIP Link: https://nj.aspirafocus.com/internetsales
• Migratory Bird Hunting & Conservation Stamp (Federal Duck Stamp)
• You must be available to stay overnight for the workshop.
• You must bring a 12- or 20-gauge shotgun and waders (chest or hip). A packing list will be provided to the selected participants.

All ammunition will be provided by the R3 Hunting & Shooting Program.
