Outdoor Women of New Jersey Workshop

In partnership with NJ State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs Annual Convention

Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife for a one-day workshop that will offer women 18 years and older interested in learning more about fishing, hunting, wildlife and connecting with nature.

About the Workshop: This one-day workshop is being held in conjunction with the NJ State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs (NJSFSC) Annual Convention and NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Deer Classic, allowing participants to be able to attend NJSFSC sessions as well as see the deer that received outstanding awards. Participants will sign up ahead of time for the workshop sessions you want to attend.

9:10 – 12:00 p.m.
Fly Fishing 101
– FULL
Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Pequest staff to learn the ins and outs of fly fishing. During this session, you will learn about fly rod rigging and anatomy, followed by instructions on how to cast the basic 4-part cast. You will then try your hand at casting on grass, so no fishing license is required.

9:10 – 10:00 a.m.
Native Gardening for Pollinators

Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Endangered and Nongame Species staff to learn the importance of having a native garden that welcomes pollinators to your yard. Rob will discuss what native plants to use in your garden, as well as highlight some of New Jersey’s native bees who rely on those plants.

10:10 – 11:00 a.m.
Bucktail Teaser Tying and Gyotaku

Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Sedge Island staff to gear up for saltwater fishing by tying your own summer flounder bucktail teaser. This session will also cover fish anatomy where you’ll learn about the art of fish printing (gyotaku) and get to make your own fish print using rubber fish.

Wildlife of New Jersey

Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Environmental Education Staff to learn more about what NJDEP Fish & Wildlife does through exploring the Mobile Education Trailer, and then spend time learning about the mammals that reside in New Jersey. Then venture outside to see what wildlife sign there is. NOTE: This session will be outside so dress accordingly.

11:10 – 12:00 p.m.
Proper Shotgun and Bow Fitting
Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Hunter Education staff to learn how to properly measure yourself for purchasing bows, shotguns, and other necessary equipment.

1:10 – 2:00 p.m.
Wildlife of New Jersey
Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Environmental Education Staff to learn more about what NJ Fish Wildlife does through exploring the Mobile Education Trailer, and then spend time learning about the mammals that reside in New Jersey. Then venture outside to see what wildlife sign there is. NOTE: This session will be outside so dress accordingly.

1:10 – 3:00 p.m.
Turkey and Turkey Hunting
Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s R3 Program and National Wild Turkey Federation for an informative, introductory session on the wonderful world of turkey hunting. This session will explore the life history and biology of turkeys, hunting regulations, equipment, scouting, planning your hunt, and turkey calling. If you’re new to turkey hunting or interested in learning how to get the most out of your turkey hunt this session is for you.

1:10 – 3:00 p.m.
Nature Journaling for the Outdoors Woman – FULL
Join 2nd Nature Connections to learn how to keep a record of what you see, experience, and notice while outside—hiking, scouting, hunting or fishing through nature journaling. No artistic skills required, just a desire to connect with nature. This session will be outside so dress accordingly.

2:10 – 3:00 p.m.
Fishing Equipment
Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife Aquatic Education staff to explore various fishing equipment for both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Make sure your tackle box and equipment are ready to hit the water this spring. Have equipment but not sure what to do with it? Bring it along to get hands-on help with knowing how to use it. This session will be outside so dress accordingly.

Workshop Fee: $25.00 (plus processing fees for a total of $28.52)

Registration: Complete the online REGISTRATION FORM.

NOTE: Registration is limited to 25 women participants and registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
