About the Program: This program is open to individuals and families with children ages 10 and older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Children under 10 years of age are not eligible to participate in this program.
Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife staff and volunteers for a hands-on fishing workshop that includes everything you need to start fishing! This introductory workshop will cover fish biology; how to set up equipment; safety practices; bait and tackle choices; how to cast; and fishing regulations. Participants will put their new skills to practice with a fishing experience. All bait, tackle and equipment will be provided however participants aged 16 and over will need to purchase a 2025 NJ Fishing License prior to participating in the workshop. This is a catch and release fishing workshop.
Workshop Fee: Free. All bait, tackle and equipment will be provided.

- Registration is required. Only selected participants will be notified by July 8.
- You must be 18 years or older and have a valid 2025 NJ Freshwater Fishing license and Trout Stamp* to participate in the workshop.
*NJ Residents, aged 70 and older do not need a fishing license, but can create a CID# or retrieve an existing CID# for free by following the instructions above.
