First Catch Center Workshop – Family Fishing Program

NJ Fish & Wildlife’s First Catch Center at Hackettstown State Fish Hatchery is excited to offer three workshops this fall! These workshops will provide everything you’ll need for beginners interested in learning to fish, targeting new fish species, or the first opportunity to fish with your family. These workshops are introductory and will cover fish biology; how to set up equipment; safety practices; bait and tackle choices; how to cast; and fishing regulations. Participants will put their new skills to practice with a fishing experience. All bait, tackle and equipment will be provided.

You must have a Conservation ID# (CID#) to apply.

Notes:
- Registration is limited.
- Anglers 16 and older are required to have a valid 2023 NJ Freshwater Fishing license to participate in the work-shop.
- NJ Residents, under 16 and 70 and older do not need a fishing license, but can create a CID# or retrieve an existing CID# for free by following the instructions above.
Participants will learn basic fishing skills and put to practice those skills while fishing during the program. The program is open to ages 8 and older. Those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
