Family Fishing Workshop – First Catch Center at Hackettstown Hatchery

About the Program: Come learn basic fishing skills to start fishing as a family activity. The program is open to children ages 8 and older. Those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
NJ Fish & Wildlife’s First Catch Center Workshops are introductory and will cover fish biology; how to set up equipment; safety practices; bait and tackle choices; how to cast; and fishing regulations. Participants will put their new skills to practice with a fishing experience and leave the workshop with the knowledge and confidence to head out fishing on their own. All bait, tackle and equipment will be provided, however participants aged 16 and over will need to purchase your 2025 NJ Fishing License prior to participating in the workshop. Please note this is a catch and release workshop.
Workshop Fee: Free. All bait, tackle and equipment will be provided.
Registration Deadline: April 6 at 12:00 p.m. Registration is limited to 20 people only. You may register up to four (4) additional family members.

Notes:
- Registration is required.
- Participants 16 years and older must have a valid 2025 NJ Freshwater Fishing license* to participate in the workshop.
- *NJ Residents, aged 70 and older do not need a fishing license, but can create a CID# or retrieve an existing CID# for free by following the instructions above.
